The album’s cover states the obvious. Metropolitan Avenue is a subway station along the G line in Brooklyn, New York where many have sighted Len Xiang performing on its platform. However, there is much more to this album than meets the eye. “Metropolitan Avenue” is a paradoxical interpretation of the “underground”. The lyrics to the album’s hit song, “Waiting on the Sun”, can be understood in two ways, one that sends chills up your spine in anticipation of an encounter with Dracula and another that tells the dark truth about black American slaves planning their escape, taking revenge and gaining their freedom. Both meanings, hauntingly risqué. “Necromancing”, “Black Magic” , “Killer”, and "Shoot Out" also play with double entendres. Life “underground” as an artist, terror or runaway slave leans to Len Xiang’s deliberate exploitation of the ambiguities of the underground world.
